In a broader context, U.S. moves against several Latin American countries are widely seen as an effort to “clean up its backyard.”

This policy is closely linked to the growing influence of Russia, China, and other countries across the Americas.

From a global geopolitical perspective, Trump’s stance reflects Washington’s long-term interest in maintaining its dominance in the region.

The United States is seen as seeking to strengthen its influence—and, if possible, exert control—over Latin American nations.

The assault on Venezuela and pressure on Colombia and Cuba are viewed as preventive measures to deter countries in the region from joining alliances perceived as detrimental to U.S. interests, such as Brazil’s decision to join BRICS.

Latin America’s current situation is considered increasingly fragile, as no counterbalancing power has yet emerged that is capable of curbing unilateral U.S. actions.

Geographically, China and Russia are seen as too distant to directly challenge Washington’s dominance, although the potential for proxy conflicts remains open should the two countries choose to respond more actively.

Beyond economic factors, the United States is also seeking to roll back the influence of other powers—such as China, Russia, and Iran—which have gained a foothold in Latin America through economic investment, military cooperation, and other strategic partnerships.***
