KLIK SAJA - Donald Trump has announced plans to visit China following a phone call with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The U.S. president said he reciprocated Xi’s invitation with one of his own to the White House, describing the conversation as a “very good talk.” However, neither side has officially confirmed the details of these potential visits.

Thursday’s phone call marked the first direct conversation between the two leaders since Trump launched a trade war with Beijing back in February.

Chinese state media reported that the call took place at the White House’s request.

Posting on social media, Trump stated that the 90-minute conversation primarily revolved around trade issues and “resulted in a very positive outcome for both countries.”

“He invited me to China, and I invited him here,” Trump said of his exchange with Xi, during a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in the Oval Office.

“We both accepted. So I’ll be going to China with the First Lady at some point, and hopefully he’ll come here, also with the First Lady of China.”

The Chinese government’s statement confirmed Xi’s invitation for Trump to visit Beijing, but made no mention of any reciprocal invitation to Washington.

According to China’s state-run news agency Xinhua, Xi urged the U.S. to “withdraw the negative measures it has imposed on China.”

He reiterated that China has always honored its commitments, and both sides must uphold a recent trade agreement made in Geneva — a deal designed to dramatically reduce trade tariffs, once touted by Trump as a “complete reset.”

Since its inception, both nations have accused each other of violating the pact. The agreement followed a wave of escalating tariffs: Trump had imposed steep import duties on several countries, with the highest rates targeting China.

In response, Beijing slapped its own tariffs on American goods, prompting a tit-for-tat escalation that peaked at 145%.

A temporary truce reached in May saw U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods reduced to 30%, while China cut its tariffs on American products to 10% and pledged to ease export restrictions on critical minerals.

The deal gave both parties a 90-day window to finalize a long-term agreement. However, talks have since stalled amid mutual accusations of non-compliance.
