KLIK SAJA - A classic European encounter awaits as Spanish giants Real Madrid face off against Italy’s Old Lady, Juventus, in the Round of 16 of the Club World Cup on Tuesday (local time).

Real Madrid topped Group H with seven points from three matches, while Juventus secured second place in Group G after collecting six points from their group-stage games.

Madrid had a shaky start to the tournament, being held to a 1-1 draw by Al-Hilal in their opening match.

However, they bounced back with convincing wins over Pachuca and Red Bull Salzburg to seal their place in the knockout stages.

Their most impressive performance came against Salzburg, where goals from Vinicius Junior, Federico Valverde, and Gonzalo Garcia secured a dominant 3-0 victory.

The Spanish side is now entering a new chapter under the leadership of Xabi Alonso.

The former midfield maestro is tasked with restoring Madrid’s dominance in Spanish and European football following an underwhelming 2024–25 season.

This summer, Los Blancos have already bolstered their squad with the additions of Dean Huijsen and Trent Alexander-Arnold, with more reinforcements expected before the transfer window closes.

This clash marks the first meeting between Real Madrid and Juventus since the 2017–18 UEFA Champions League quarterfinals.

Juventus won the second leg 3-1 in Spain, but Madrid advanced to the semifinals thanks to a 4-3 aggregate scoreline.

Juventus, on the other hand, have enjoyed a strong start to their Club World Cup campaign.

They dismantled Al Ain 5-0 and followed it up with a convincing 4-1 win over Wydad AC. In their final group match, the Turin-based club faced Manchester City in a battle for top spot in Group G but fell 5-2 to the English champions.

Igor Tudor’s side would have preferred to avoid Real Madrid at this stage, but a victory here would set up a mouthwatering quarterfinal clash against either Borussia Dortmund or Monterrey.

Juventus last lifted the Serie A trophy in the 2019–20 season. They finished fourth in the league last year, a position they’ve occupied in three of the past five seasons.

Historically, Real Madrid and Juventus have faced each other 21 times.
