KLIK SAJA – Having successfully passed their first test on the road toward making "football come home," England have the chance to secure a place in the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a game to spare when they face Ghana in a crucial Group L encounter at Gillette Stadium on Tuesday.

The Three Lions endured a few nervous moments before eventually defeating Croatia 4-2 in their tournament opener, while Ghana's Black Stars also put themselves in a strong position after edging Panama 1-0 in their opening fixture.

Ranked as the third favorites to lift the trophy—behind only European rivals France and Spain—England strengthened their credentials as genuine title contenders on June 17 by replicating one of the most iconic scorelines in their World Cup history against 2018 finalists Croatia.

The 4-2 victory marked England's first World Cup win by that scoreline since the famous 1966 final against West Germany.

Thomas Tuchel's attacking philosophy paid off handsomely as record-equalling Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham, and Marcus Rashford compensated for the defensive lapses that threatened to undermine England's performance.

The psychological significance of that victory cannot be overstated. England ended a nine-match winless streak in World Cup games against teams ranked inside FIFA's top 15, while also snapping a six-game losing run against elite opposition.

Their tally of 20 shots from inside the penalty area set a new World Cup record for England, underlining the attacking intent of Tuchel's side. Sitting atop Group L on goal difference, the Three Lions can book their place in the Round of 32 with a victory over Ghana in Foxborough.

A win on Tuesday would also represent a fourth consecutive victory across all competitions for England. Additionally, Tuchel's men could score at least three goals in three straight matches for only the second time under the German coach, who previously achieved that feat against Serbia, Wales, and Latvia between September and October.

Interestingly, Ghana must also look back to October for the last time they scored more than once in a match, when they hammered Comoros 5-0 in a World Cup qualifier. However, the Black Stars needed just a single goal to overcome Panama in Toronto last Thursday.

After 94 goalless minutes, 20-year-old Caleb Yirenkyi emerged as the unlikely hero, finishing off a swift counterattack to move Ghana within three points of their first World Cup knockout-stage appearance since 2010.

That victory also marked Ghana's first opening-match win at a World Cup since the South Africa 2010 edition, 16 years ago. Like England, Carlos Queiroz's side can secure a top-two finish with another victory before heading into a decisive final group match against Croatia.

Yirenkyi's dramatic late strike also ended a four-match winless run for the Black Stars, who had conceded 10 goals in their previous 360 minutes of football. Nevertheless, Ghana have never managed back-to-back clean sheets in World Cup competition.

Despite that, Ghana can take confidence from their only previous meeting with England. In 2011, the Black Stars held the Three Lions to a 1-1 draw after Asamoah Gyan cancelled out Andy Carroll's opener.
