KLIK SAJA - AC Milan are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Real Madrid legend Luka Modric after receiving an initial green light from the player.

The move could materialize during the current summer transfer window.

The 39-year-old midfield maestro is set to officially end his illustrious 13-year spell with Real Madrid following the Club World Cup, bringing to a close a remarkable chapter in the Spanish capital.

Despite nearing his 40th birthday, Modric has no plans to hang up his boots anytime soon.

In fact, the Croatian icon still harbors ambitions of representing his national team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The former Tottenham Hotspur star continued to showcase his enduring quality last season, making 56 appearances under Carlo Ancelotti, scoring four goals and providing nine assists—proof that his influence on the pitch remains strong.

Modric has long been expected to stay in Europe rather than make a move to leagues such as Major League Soccer or the Saudi Pro League.

He was previously linked with a surprise transfer to Scottish giants Rangers.

However, with Rangers now poised to appoint Russell Martin as head coach—rather than Davide Ancelotti—talks of a potential switch to Ibrox have faded from the realm of possibility.

Instead, Modric now appears set for a move to San Siro. According to renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, AC Milan are getting closer to securing Modric on a free transfer.

Romano reports that the club and player have nearly reached a verbal agreement, with Modric giving his initial approval to join Massimiliano Allegri’s squad.

The veteran midfielder is expected to sign a one-year contract with an option to extend until the end of the 2026–2027 season—potentially keeping him at Milan until the age of 41.

Modric is reportedly set to earn around €3.5 million per year at San Siro. However, Milan are holding off on an official announcement out of respect for Modric’s commitments this summer.

The 2018 Ballon d’Or winner has amassed 43 goals and 95 assists in 591 appearances for Real Madrid, who are slated to face Al-Hilal, Pachuca, and Red Bull Salzburg in Group H of the Club World Cup.
