KLIK SAJA - Liverpool have confirmed that they have accepted an offer from Real Madrid for Trent Alexander-Arnold, with the Spanish giants reportedly set to pay £10 million to secure the right-back’s services before the expiration of his contract.
The England international’s move to Los Blancos had been an open secret in recent weeks, and it was only a matter of time before the transfer to Santiago Bernabéu was officially announced.
Before the end of the 2024–25 season, Alexander-Arnold had confirmed that he would be leaving his boyhood club, although he did not disclose his next destination at the time.
It was initially expected that he would depart on a free transfer when his contract expired on June 30.
However, with Real Madrid set to begin their FIFA Club World Cup campaign on June 18, Alexander-Arnold would not have been eligible to represent them in time had he waited until the end of his contract. As a result, Los Blancos pushed to finalize the deal earlier.
Liverpool have now officially announced that they have agreed to Real Madrid’s proposal. While the Reds did not reveal the exact figure, reports claim the total package is worth around £10 million — comprised of a fixed £8.4 million fee, with the remainder stemming from savings on wages and bonuses.
“Liverpool FC can confirm that an offer from Real Madrid has been accepted for the transfer of Trent Alexander-Arnold, effective upon the opening of the June transfer window,” read the club’s official statement.
“The right-back is now set to join the La Liga side ahead of the expiration of his Liverpool contract this summer.”
“Liverpool will receive a transfer fee for the player, and the deal will be finalized once the window opens on June 1. The club extends its gratitude to Trent for his contributions over the years.”
Real Madrid also confirmed Alexander-Arnold’s arrival on Friday morning, posting an image of the player with the Santiago Bernabéu in the background and the caption #WelcomeTrent.
Alexander-Arnold leaves Liverpool having scored 23 goals and provided 92 assists in 354 appearances across all competitions, winning eight major trophies in six different tournaments.
For many Liverpool supporters, the 26-year-old’s departure is a bitter pill to swallow — particularly as he has chosen to join one of the club’s fiercest European rivals.
Some fans even see the move as a betrayal that is difficult to forgive.
Nevertheless, from a business perspective, securing £10 million for a player with only four weeks left on his contract is seen as a masterstroke by sporting director Richard Hughes and FSG’s CEO of Football, Michael Edwards.
