KLIK SAJA - Tucked away amidst the lush greenery and serene landscapes of Aceh Besar in Sumatra Island lies a hidden gem of geological wonder and natural relaxation: Ie Seuum Hot Springs.

Located in the tranquil village of Ie Seuum, Mukim Krueng Raya, in Mesjid Raya Subdistrict, this natural thermal spring offers more than just a place to soak—it's an invitation to reconnect with nature.

In the Acehnese language, Ie Seuum translates literally to “hot water,” a name that reflects the long-standing geothermal phenomenon known to local communities for generations.

Fed by the geothermal activity of the active Seulawah Agam volcanic complex, the spring’s water emerges at a temperature between 80–85°C, flowing through geological fault lines in the Ie Seuum zone.

The heat is so intense that locals have been using the water to boil eggs naturally for years.

However, major volcanic activity, such as the 2004 earthquake, once temporarily disrupted this steady flow.

Just a two-hour drive from Banda Aceh, Ie Seuum makes for a perfect stop after visiting other nearby attractions like Ujong Batee Beach, Indra Pura Fortress, and Inong Balee Fortress.

The scenic journey to the springs winds through the foothills of Mount Seulawah, offering breathtaking views of rolling green hills—a dream route for landscape photographers and nature lovers alike.

What makes Ie Seuum particularly unique is that it’s open 24 hours a day, allowing visitors to enjoy its soothing warmth at any time, day or night.

The site features five permanent soaking pools: three designated for children and two separate pools for adult men and women, in accordance with Aceh's Islamic law.

Each pool is supervised by attendants, and strict regulations are enforced to ensure modesty and comfort for all guests.

Ie Seuum draws not only local residents but also international travelers, especially backpackers seeking rest and renewal.

The mineral-rich water, containing natural sulfur, is believed to relieve rheumatism, nerve disorders, skin conditions, and even help loosen stiff muscles.
