Following The Stone Roses’ initial breakup, Mani continued his career with Primal Scream. However, on October 18, 2011, he announced his departure from the band in order to reunite with a reformed version of The Stone Roses.
The band’s comeback proved enormously successful, marked by major tours, sold-out concerts, and the release of two new singles.
Nevertheless, this second chapter came to an end in June 2017, following their final performance at Hampden Park in Glasgow.
Life After Music and Social Contributions
After the second disbandment of The Stone Roses, Mani chose to step away from full-time music between 2017 and 2025.
During this period, he focused primarily on his personal life, charitable work, and public appearances.
Together with his wife Imelda, who was battling cancer at the time, Mani was deeply involved in fundraising for cancer care institutions, including The Christie Cancer Hospital in Manchester.
They organized several successful charity auctions that made a meaningful impact.
Outside of music, Mani remained a familiar public figure as a passionate football pundit and a devoted supporter of Manchester United.
He frequently appeared on television and radio, including Sky One’s Football Years, as well as on various podcasts.
Unfulfilled Plans and His Passing
Shortly before his death, in November 2025, it was announced that Mani had planned a UK speaking tour for 2026–2027, titled “The Stone Roses, Primal Scream, And Me”.
The tour was intended as a reflection on his four-decade-long career in music. Sadly, those plans were never realized.
Gary “Mani” Mounfield passed away in November 2025 at the age of 63, leaving behind a deep sense of loss among music fans worldwide.
