KLIK SAJA  - His name may not be as globally famous as the late Ozzy Osbourne, but in the United Kingdom, he was widely regarded as one of Manchester’s most progressive and influential musicians.

That reputation was clearly reflected in the figures who attended his funeral. Prominent British celebrities such as Liam Gallagher of Oasis and football icon David Beckham were present to pay their respects to the musician known as Mani Stone Roses.

British musician Mani Stone Roses passed away on November 20, 2025, but it was his funeral, held on December 22, that drew widespread attention from netizens around the world.

The ceremony was attended by numerous British public figures, underscoring just how profound his influence was on the UK music scene.

A Key Figure in British Alternative Music

Born Gary “Mani” Mounfield on November 16, 1962, he was an English rock bassist whose name is firmly embedded in the history of British alternative music.

Mani was best known as a member of The Stone Roses, Primal Scream, and the supergroup Freebass.

With his dynamic and distinctive bass-playing style, Mani became one of the defining figures behind the iconic Madchester sound that reshaped British music in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Early Life and Joining The Stone Roses

Mani studied at Xaverian College in Rusholme, Manchester. He left school at the age of 16 in 1979 and soon began pursuing music seriously. In 1987, he joined The Stone Roses, replacing bassist Pete Garner, and quickly became a vital part of the band until their first breakup in 1996.

As a bassist, Mani made a major contribution to the band’s signature fusion of psychedelic rock, dance music, and indie pop.

His powerful and expressive bass lines—especially on songs such as “She Bangs the Drums” and “I Am the Resurrection”—played a crucial role in propelling The Stone Roses to international fame.

He was also known for playing a Rickenbacker 4005 bass guitar, famously decorated with Jackson Pollock–style paint splatters after the band’s debut album.
