KLIK SAJA - Netflix returns with a refreshing blend of science fiction and heartfelt romance in its latest release, Our Times (2025).

Directed by Chava Cartas and starring two of Mexico’s most beloved icons, Lucero and Benny Ibarra, this film is not just about time travel—it’s a journey of the heart, exploring love, equality, and life-altering choices.

Instead of following the familiar trope of going back in time to fix the past, Our Times takes a bold turn. It thrusts its characters—and the audience—into the future, from 1966 to 2025, raising a powerful question: are the values we carry from the past still worth holding on to?

At the heart of the story is Nora Esquivel, a brilliant physics professor in 1960s Mexico. Alongside her husband, Héctor, she builds a time machine.

Despite her intellect and equal contribution, Nora is viewed merely as her husband’s “assistant,” a reflection of the deeply patriarchal society they live in.

When their experiment unexpectedly transports them to the year 2025, they find themselves in a world dramatically different from the one they knew—a world that becomes a mirror, exposing the inequalities of their past.

In this new era, they reunite with Julia, a former student of Nora’s who has risen to become a university dean. Julia embodies progress and possibility—a woman who has achieved professional greatness without living in anyone’s shadow.

Nora finally finds the space she always longed for: recognition, freedom, and the chance to shine in her own right. But for Héctor, the future is not as kind.

Caught between nostalgia and irrelevance, he struggles to accept that his once-dominant role in science and family is no longer needed.

Their emotional struggle becomes the film’s gravitational center.

As love clashes with pride and the past collides with the present, they must face a difficult decision: return to a familiar but unfair era, or embrace a new, more equal future that challenges everything they’ve known.

Visually, Our Times delivers a compelling contrast between eras. Warm, nostalgic tones of 1966 shift into cool, sleek palettes of 2025, underscoring the changes in atmosphere, mindset, and social dynamics.

Lucero shines as Nora, portraying a woman of intellect, grace, and inner strength long suppressed by her time.

Benny Ibarra convincingly brings depth to Héctor, a man torn between affection and ego.
